My Freshman Year of College
My freshman year of college has officially ended! As I look at my empty dorm room, I began to contemplate on my overall freshman experience. It had its ups and its downs, but in all honesty, it was a unique and unforgettable experience.
Freshman year has taught me so much about myself. When I say “so much,” I mean everything ranging from health issues and self discovery. I got sick and almost fainted once because I was lacking the proper nutrients. This taught me that the easiest food to get, isn’t always the best for you. I had to learn to cook my own meals and to watch what I eat.
I always wondered what I was going to succeed in. I never really found something that I was passionate about. During my first semester of college, I went to many club meetings and during my second semester, I narrowed them down. There were clubs that I liked more than others. These clubs allowed me to push myself further. The people that were head of the clubs inspired me to do what they do. I also considered trying new things. I actually joined a dance club, something that I don’t have experience in. It was sort of embarrassing for me to participate in dance classes with them but it all turned out great in the end because I got a leadership position for the next two semesters!
Being away from home was harder than I expected. Going to a university that is seven hours away can be hard to go home sometimes. I know many people that went back home almost every weekend because they lived close. But thanks to technology, I am able to FaceTime members of my family from time to time. Of course, I can’t talk to them everyday. That is how I learned to be dependent. I learned to do a great deal of things on my own, because I was living by myself. I learned how to set a limit on going out, and finding time to do work and errands.
So that is only part of how my freshman experience went. Of course there were more things that I did, but this article would be endless if I told you all of it.
This articles goes out to all the “past freshmen.” Get ready for sophomore year because there’s so much more to come! To the incoming college freshmen, you’re going to have so much fun!
