Every now and again we need to reinvent ourselves. Not exactly change who we are but maybe take another look at our style or maybe how we handle situations.

When you have a house or apartment of your own, there may be times when you want to redo that one part of your space. As you grow older, the space you lived in at the beginning and how you designed it may not reflect you in the way that you want anymore. You may want to seem older or you may have different tastes nowadays. Yellow may not be your favorite color anymore and you want to paint the walls a dark red now.

All in all, revamping is all a personal matter, but it does come with some hard decisions. You, yourself, have to decide what you can afford when redecorating and how you would like to redecorate in the first place. If you just want to change the paint on the walls, then that is one thing, but if you want to change up a space in your house or apartment entirely, well that will require quite a bit more effort and imagination. Depending of course on the room you are redecorating, that too comes with its own challenges.

For this article, the kitchen is where we will focus. Kitchens, like many other rooms in houses and apartments, come in various shapes and sizes. Each and every one of them are designed differently and have their own flare, of course depending on the owner. After a while not all kitchens feel the same and you may want to touch up things here and there. I don’t mean revamp as in get a new dishwasher, I mean get new cabinet covers or add some plants to the space. When revamping, it is really about what you think will look better and reflect you as a house or apartment renter.

After a while, you start seeing other people’s kitchens and realize that with enough time and effort (and of course money) you want to add or remove little things to your kitchen and start to expand your designing skills a bit more. No one says you need to be an expert on these things because the only person that needs to be happy with these changes is you.

Here are a few ways to reinvent your kitchen to your liking if you so choose to do so.

1. Cabinet covers: If you aren’t sure what exactly to start with when thinking about redecorating your kitchen, go with the easiest option first: invest in cabinet covers. These give you the chance to put a new design on your cabinets and not have to put much work into it. And if you like them then you just did your first redesign for a low amount of money. These are also really great for covering up ugly cabinet scratches.

2. Add plants: Seems weird, adding plants. Especially if you are like me and you are not really a plant person. You like plants but they aren’t a part of your daily life. In this instance, I am meaning it in a way to add life to your kitchen. It can make your kitchen look more desirable and modern. I, personally, would go with a fake plant, just because I would forget to water a real one, no matter how pretty it was.

3. Add counter space: Sometimes, not having enough work space is what frustrates people so much about their kitchen. So making a DIY chopping board to place over your stove when you aren’t using it opens up space for you to do other things. Or, like in my apartment, we have a rolling work bench type thing that holds all kinds of things and allows us the space to do other things while someone else is working on the counters. Versatility is what makes a good kitchen great.

4. New hardware: You may look at your cabinet handles and drawer knobs and absolutely hate them. Never fear, that is what new hardware makeup is for. Most of these things are screwed in, so all you have to do is go and buy some more that fit your situation and screw in the new ones. You can find these particular items at department stores or at a hardware store.

5. Hang artwork: Simple and easy. Go to a store and buy some art you like. Invest in some command hooks or nails and simply place your art on the walls. It will make your kitchen seem more homey and warm.

People will want to see your art, which will force them to gather into your kitchen and most likely see the other revamping details that you have done.

Redesigning a room can be a tough job, but in the end it will make you a satisfied person to know that you made a room feel more like you in the end.
